Pet Urine Odor Removal

People often love their home pets dearly…but not so much the odors they may leave behind in your house. Animal lovers also know that the smell of cat or dog urine is only a part of the problem. The other part of the problem is that the pet tends to relieve itself in the same place again.

By treating fresh urine promptly, removing old odors and preventing bathroom accidents in the first place, you can eliminate pet odors and make your home smell fresh again.

Once you find a fresh urine stain, blot the spot with a clean towel immediately. This will soak up as much urine as possible, reducing the possibility of the pee soaking into your rug or upholstery. Use a bowl of warm water and a few drops of mild soap to dilute the damp spot. Use a clean towel to wipe the wet spot with the soapy water, blotting with a dry towel. You may have to do this a few times until no traces of the original stain remain.

Launder or replace any items like sheets or covers that retain smell.

Home remedies

Vinegar is a very effective odor neutralizer. Put white vinegar in a spray bottle and use it to saturate the offending area. Leave it in place for a few hours, until it dries. As the vinegar smell fades, so will the odor of urine.

Using corn starch or baking soda can also neutralize strong odors and is harmless to you and your pet. Sprinkle it over the smelly area, and work it in well with a broom or a scrub brush so that it gets to the odor’s source. Let it sit for about 24 hours. The corn starch or baking soda will come up, bringing the urine odor along with it. Then vacuum the area thoroughly to remove the residue.

Chlorine bleach effectively removes pet urine odors from concrete surfaces like patios or in garages. Bleach, however, has to be used with care as it can damage your clothing, carpets, and furniture; neither you nor your pet should breathe the fumes. Put some bleach in a spray bottle and apply it full-strength to the affected area. Leave it for an hour or two, then rinse well.

Over the counter products

You can also use enzyme-based products available at pet stores that break down the bacteria and neutralizes the odor. These products use the power of enzymes to do the work and are non-toxic for pets. These enzymes are proteins that help to get rid of natural chemical reactions at a molecular level. The enzymes in pet carpet care products attach themselves to the molecules that make up the urine and bacteria that feed on it. You may need to treat the area with a product more than once.

How to protect your home from water damage

Water leakage

You might never know when a flood could strike your home. It is important to prepare your home against a flood. You do not want your furniture, appliance or household items to be soaked by water.

The first precaution you can take is making sure that the electrical circuitry and equipment at your home is raised or kept at above the level of the expected water.

If there has been damage to the roof of your home, repair it. This is done to avoid moisture and protect the interior of your home.

Take out any waste material which is present on the roof drain pipe. This will ensure that the water drains out properly.

When you’re travelling far, make sure to switch off the water supply and check all the pipes in case of any leaks.

Inspect the plants and trees. Make sure that they don’t obstruct the sprinkler system or septic tank.

Pouring grease inside the sink would cause the sink to clog. Freeze the grate and then toss it out into the trash can.

If there’s a leak which you don’t know about, it will reflect on your water bill. Keep a check on your monthly water bills.

Install a water detection device near a water heater; it would sound an alarm in case of any moisture water damage.

We at Classique Chemdry, we provide water damage restoration services Bungendore Crookwell, Goulburn, Yass, Gunning, Marulan, Collectorr and surrounding NSW. Visit our website at http://www.classiquechemdry.com.au/. Call 1800 213 006 for a free quote.

Tips to combat your child's allergies

Many a time, parents find it difficult to detect the signs of allergies in their young children. After all, kids come in contact with germs all the time which could result in coughing, sneezing and a runny nose. While most of us would believe it's another cold, it could actually be an allergy if there's constant sneezing, coughing, eyes watering, headaches, chest congestion and trouble in breathing.

The most effective way to treating allergies in the child is finding out what exactly is triggering it. Once you know the reason for it, you can adopt a few changes to ensure your child is in a much healthy environment. Below are some smart tips to help you prevent allergies.

1. Stuffed toys attract a lot of dust mites and other allergens. Therefore, it is important to wash them often using hot water.

2. Use a dust mite-proof cover on your child's bed to avoid dust mites from settling in. Also, ensure that the bedding is washed every week in hot water.

3. Get your carpets and upholstery cleaned by professionals in order to get rid of the dust and allergens thoroughly. Classique Chem-Dry with its cleaning expertise is known to remove 98% of allergens from carpets, rugs, furniture and upholstery.

4. Purchase a vacuum cleaner that has a HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filter as this captures even the smallest of dust particles resulting in cleaner air.

5. Use a good air conditioning system to filter allergens from the outside environment. Check the filters periodically and replace them when they get extremely dirty.

6. Be on the look out for mould and mildew.

7. Opt for chemical cleaners that have mild scents.

8. Avoid smoking indoors.

9. Vacuum and wash your cushions, pillows and blankets regularly to minimise the
    exposure to pet dander.

In extreme cases consult a pediatrician for effective medication.
